Tips to Answer Emory Secondaries
Emory Secondaries Pre-Writing Guidance: The Emory Medical School secondary application essay questions have not changed in the past couple of years. We highly recommend you pre-write this secondary so that you can submit it sooner.

Emory Secondary Application Tip #1: We think that the most important question is, “Briefly describe your interest in Emory and the Emory degree program you have selected.”
- Step 1: Read our high-yield blog post Why this Medical School? Secondary Essay Example
- Step 2: Give very specific aspects about Emory School of Medicine’s curriculum, opportunities at Emory University and Atlanta
- Step 3: Link the reasons for “Why Emory School of Medicine” with activities that you have done in the past. For example, if you’ve been an advocate for educating African-American communities about their health throughout college & your gap years, talk about how you want to continue that while you are a student at Emory Medical School.
Emory Secondary Application Tip #2: If you have done any work or community service in Georgia state, mention it in your Emory secondaries. We have heard that the Emory University School of Medicine Admissions Committee strongly prefers applicants who have affiliations with Georgia and who have worked in clinical settings in the state of Georgia. If you have worked in Georgia, discuss patients and community members you have worked with. What are the issues Georgia patients face? What are your ideas to improve healthcare issues in Georgia? You can include these insights into your secondary responses, especially for the question, “Briefly describe your health-related experiences. Be sure to include important experiences that are in your AMCAS application, as well as any recent experiences. “
What if you don’t have experiences in Georgia? What we would recommend is to tie your healthcare experiences .
Emory Secondary Application Tip #3: For the question that asks you to explain your healthcare experiences, one mistake we notice is that applicants only mention clinical opportunities. It is important to mention all of those clinical activities! But, don’t forget to mention any public health, public policy, healthcare research, or healthcare business experiences too. Emory medical school wants to recruit a diversity class, so don’t be shy to mention all your healthcare experiences!
Emory Secondary Application Tip #4: Ask us for help with tailoring and personalizing your Emory School of Medicine secondary application essays. We have a track records of our students receiving acceptances at Emory for the past several years! Contact us below if you have questions or want our editing help through our secondary essay packages.
Emory Secondary Application Tip #5: We still have seen non-Georgia residents receive interview invites from the Emory Medical School Admissions Committee. What these students have in common are the following:
- Commitment to community health and public health, whether that’s community service work at vaccination clinics in the community or conducting epidemiology research.
- Strong research background
- Desire for health equity and quality health care for all individuals
- Ample experiences in clinical settings
Emory Secondary Application Tip #6: Emory has one of the best MD/MPH programs, especially since it’s link with the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Medical students in the MD/MPH program have protected time to take MPH classes and have resources to conduct public health research throughout their time in medical school. HOWEVER, we suggest that you have a STRONG public health background if you are going to apply to the dual degree MD/MPH program. Contact us if you want our opinion on whether you should apply MD/MPH to Emory School of Medicine and other medical schools.
