AZCOM Secondaries Pre-writing Guidance: Osteopathic schools are not stringent with timeline and we advise our premed mentees to submit their allopathic (MD) secondaries first before DO schools’ secondaries.

AZCOM Secondary Application Tip #1: To answer the AZCOM secondary application question, “Why do you believe AZCOM would provide you with the type of osteopathic medical education you are seeking?” be very specific about what you want to do at AZCOM. The opportunities should be relevant to your extra-curricular activities and the type of doctor you want to be. For example, if you like working with immigrant patients and want to continue working with immigrant patients, discuss clinical opportunities at AZCOM you want to pursue where you will be able to work with a lot of immigrant patients.

AZCOM Secondary Application Tip #2: If you know any medical school students, AZCOM alums, or faculty members at AZCOM, then you should mention them in the question, “How did you become aware of Midwestern University/AZCOM?“
Additionally, if you know about AZCOM because you had family members attend there, you should definitely mention them!

If you have not yet shadowed with an osteopathic physician, then please do so BEFORE you apply – yes, that means delay your application until you shadow a DO doctor. We consider it a RED FLAG if you submit an AZCOM secondary without having worked with a DO doctor.
