Tips to Answer Saint Louis University Medical School Secondaries

SLU Medical School Secondary Application Tip #1: Understand the Jesuit value of “cura personalis.” We think this website explains the cura personalis philosophy – What is Cura Personalis

Once you understand Cura Personalis, show how you have fostered your commitment to serve others in your Saint Louis School of Medicine secondary application essays, especially in the prompts “What does social justice mean to you?” and “Describe briefly any experiences and/or skills that have made you more sensitive or appreciative of other cultures or the human condition.” We advise our students to pick stories and activities that exemplify cura personalis.

SLU Medical School Secondary Application Tip #2: Here are some tips to answer the SLU medical school secondary essay question, Will you be a full-time student for the upcoming academic year? If no, please describe your current activities

    • If you are taking a gap year, discuss both clinical and non-clinical activities you will be involved with. One common mistake we see on the SLU secondary essay drafts we read is that students put a scant amount of information and don’t add their non-clinical experiences.
    • If you have space, you can also add your motivations for choosing the gap year experience and what you want to learn from the experience.

SLU Medical School Secondary Application Tip #3: For the last question, we definitely recommend students to answer this question. You can discuss “Why Saint Louis University School of Medicine.” Or, you can add other information that you haven’t been able to talk about in your AMCAS application or the SLU secondary application essays. For example, we have helped students who have written additional information about research, family member’s health issues, or stories from their clinical experiences.

SLU Medical School Secondary Application Tip #4: We can help you tailor your essay towards SLU’s cura personalis mission and towards your extra-curricular strengths. Check out our secondary essay packages. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
